Because Climate. How you get around has a big impact on your carbon footprint. For most people around 30-40%. But now that you live in a net-zero home - personal transportation will be an even bigger share of your carbon footprint. And now - the really good news: Ontario’s power grid is very clean by global standards - with only about 3-4% of the electricity produced generated from fossil fuel sources. When you add everything up - all the little things - insurance, fueling, oil changes, repairs, financing charges, lease overage charges and most of all - depreciation...the actual cost of car ownership turns out to be more than most people realize. For most people, vehicle depreciation per mile driven is two or three times the cost of fuel, for instance, but few people think of that as they are driving down the highway.
